Did you remember that these records were coming?

I wondered about them today and searched.
They are almost complete but most are online already.

The generous people at FamilySearch just e-mailed us to let us know that they've finished scanning our New Jersey records from the New Jersey State Archives! The boxes of microfilms were FedExed back to us today, and the new portable hard drive full of the newly scanned images will be going out in the mail either later today or else early next week.

This means we should be able to start uploading these New Jersey records to the Internet Archive late next week! They'll be free for everyone to use and copy and download -- no restrictions, no copyrights, no logins. Free public data, the way it should be.

(Yes, FamilySearch and all the for-profit genealogy companies we know and love are welcome to re-post the images too, if they want, and maybe start an indexing project? But that's totally up to them.)

If you're wondering, "wait, what New Jersey records are you talking about?" Well, it's the index to 400,000+ records from 1901-1903 (or even through 1914 for the Brides Index). Here's the full backstory with more exciting details:
https://www.reclaimtherecords.org/records-request/5/

We'll let everyone know just as soon as the new images start going online. If everything goes smoothly, the whole set should be posted online to archive.org in the next four weeks, by mid-July.
